How To Layer For Summer
The girls from the LOVEBUG CLUB are back, this time, they’re showing you some super fun and easy ways to perfect your Summer layering game.
Now we all wish is would get a bit cooler, but let’s face it, the sun ain’t going anywhere, so we might as well embrace this weather in style. We’re big fans for layering, for the simple reason that there are so many different ways of doing it. It’s really a trend that allows you to get creative and sometimes, even a little crazy.
Your could keep is simple with the basic solid colours and neutral tones, or take it to the next level with miss-matched prints, varied lengths, etc. It really helps if you have a few layering essentials in your wardrobe at all times, if not, we suggest you invest in some of these soon. Light capes or kimonos, scarves, stoles, long shirts, all make for really cool and comfy layers that don’t leave you feeling all sweaty and uncomfortable.
Here’s how some of the lovely ladies from the Lovebug Club have used these basics to layer their looks. If you like their style, you can see more of it by following their blogs, or just stay tuned to this space to see what they’re upto next!
A khaki long jacket or a summer coat goes on just about any piece of clothing. Be it a summer dress, a printed skirt or in this case, a pair of denim hot shorts!

Summer and layering don’t exactly go together like florals for spring but we have figured out ways you can incorporate this styling technique in your everyday life without feeling the heat! One of the key points to remember while layering is using the right fabrics for it, so light and flowy fabrics are your best friends. Make your outfit scream summer by opting for bright colours. Keep your makeup to the minimum to prevent it from melting off your face . Lastly do not forget to hydrate(because we care) Now without any further adieu here’s our take on it!
Karishma Shah: Usually I’m not someone who wears bright colours or a lot of prints. My entire wardrobe is mostly black, white, grey, shades of blue and a lot of neutral colours. I love sweatshirts and probably have one in each colour. But I decided to experiment this time after looking at the Vajor dress and an old yellow linen jacket that I had forgotten about. What I love about layering is that it can instantly change and/or build an outfit making it extremely individualistic. Considering, Mumbai summers can get pretty hot (we touched 40 guys!) we decided to layer using fabrics that are perfect for summer like linen or soft lightweight cottons. I love that little pop of colour that the jacket added to an otherwise completely printed outfit and broke the monotony. It’s so unlike me to wear something like this but I’ve become a fan of the balloon dress from Vajor.

Here Namaslay’s Grishma Dalvi layered her outfit to take it from day to night. By just throwing the jacket over your shoulder instead of wearing it , prevents you from feeling hot and adds extra chic points to your outfit. To take this outfit from day to night..simply ditch the jacket! This can prove to be such a life saver if you dont have the time on your hands to get changed before you head out for the night. Also we at Namaslay are a big believer of getting the maximum use out of your clothing…so implementing such techniques does increase the wearability of the pieces you already have…You can also throw on a black blazer and pair it with some black pumps for another time and no one will even notice its the same dress (you’re welcome!)

Another fun and effortless way of incorporating layering, is to simply layer your neck pieces! Here Grishma layers on a gold choker with another gold necklace, this is not only easy to do but it instantly elevates your outfit. Take your basic tee back to the next level by layering necklaces. If you need baby steps before you go all in on this trend, this is the way to go.

A basic look that you can never go wrong with. A long shirt is a great cover up for those hot pants, and skirts and add a relaxed and casual vibe to your outfit. The gladiators and a fedora complete my urban-chic look!

One of the easiest and quickest ways to master this trend is to simply take any dupatta or stole from your wardrobe, drape is around your neck and simply belt it up! This could work with a slim or a thick belt as well. You can even experiment with prints and contrasting colours to add a fun element to your look.

Summer and layering don’t really seem like a good combination for the hot and humid Indian weather but when done correctly can make your plain Jane outfit so much more interesting and oh-so-stylish.
Pair your favorite pair of cut-off shorts with a tribal printed cami and cover it up with the boho favorite tassel kimono to go easy and light on your summer outfit. Accessorize with a statement necklace and you’re good to rock an easy breezy summer layered outfit!

Summer: when the hair gets messier, the skin gets darker, water gets warmer, drinks get colder, music gets louder, nights get longer and life gets better…
Ahh sounds so great. But in the city of dreams, the weather gets more humid. But, that shouldn’t stop us from layering. You get to pair bright colors and floral prints with kimonos and jackets and shrugs – and play with accessories and footwear and the list just doesn’t end.
So this is me getting into the layering mode:
- Shrug It Off
A long shrug with a short summer dress is a hot trend and I decided to style it my way. I picked this orange skater dress and paired it with a printed shrug. The combination of the colours is what did the thing for me. The skater dress is really light and lets your skin breathe and the shrug just adds more fun to the attire. A coffee date, a sunday brunch or a pool party, you are ready to rock it chica.

2.The Fringe Story
For the second look I decided to go a little 70’s way! I am a fan of fringes, because of the sheer drama and feminity it brings to the entire outfit. So I paired for this red fringe suede jacket with an all black attire.
