9 Most Fashionable Political Figures
Progressive. Politicians. Power dressing!
It is rightly said that fashion is a reflection of times and while the times are rapidly changing, so have the style sensibilities of well-known political figures. From committing to a unique aesthetic to experimentation and more, we at LAOB, come across a few of them who have mastered the art of dressing and made quite a statement. Also, while looking at them from a fashion perspective we noticed that there were a few among them who were less afraid to be themselves and for that they’ve been lauded worldwide. So here they are:
1# Michelle Obama
First lady of the United States (2009-2017)
After her tenure of eight years at the White House, she has left a lasting impression on one and all. While favouring designers such as Jason Wu, Prabal Gurung etc, all her sleeveless dresses, statement jewels and take on prints as well as cardigans exhibit grace. Women of all age groups are not able to get enough of her. Maybe that’s got to do with her young and fresh vibe. In totality, while being fearless with her choices she is known to make any look her own.
2# Kate Middleton
Duchess of Cambridge (2014)
Nailing it in the style stakes from day one, the Duchess of Cambridge is sophisticated but in a modern way. Her style revolves around being effortless and elegant in outfits from brands like Temperley London, Mulberry and more. And what we love about her is that she repeats outfits, tweaks them around and still manages to look as chic as ever. We also noticed that she just loves wearing the color – blue.
3# Theresa May
Prime Minister of the United Kingdom
While being fond of colours, the British Prime Minister mostly opts for modern and tailored apparels. A lover of fashion, her go-to labels include – Amanda Wakeley, Hobbs, among others and she enjoys wearing designer pieces along with statement shoes too. All her looks are polished without being overdone. And that’s exactly what we like that about her style.
4# Samantha Cameron
Spouse of the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom (2010-2016)
Her tryst with fashion happened a while ago. And were you aware, that while working with the label -Symthson, the former British Prime Minister’s wife won the award for Best Accessory Designer in 2009 by the British Glamour Magazine. Moreover, as the ambassador to the British Fashion Council, her style is tasteful and has recently launched her brand- Cefinn. So besides wearing pieces from her line, she enjoys dressing up in Erdem, Christopher Kane, to name a few.
5# Sheikha Mozah Bint Nasser Al-Missned
Consort of the Emir of Qatar (1995-2013)
There is so much more to her besides being from the royal family of Qatar, as she is actively involved in the nation’s political affairs. To top that, the style icon’s choices are fashion forward. Christian Louboutin is her favourite shoe maker and all of Sheikha’s customized Haute Couture silhouettes are simply impeccable. Indeed, she is a star in her own right and an inspiration for many around the world.
6# Rania Al Abdullah
Queen Consort of Jordan (1999-present)
Favouring Middle Eastern designers such as Elie Saab, Krikor Jabotian, Aennis Eunis among others, her style is truly regal. And besides being the Queen of Jordan, her advocacy work is spoken about. Usually seen in show stopper gowns, chic daywear dress, traditional garments, she embraces contemporary prints and ruffles, beautifully.
7# Yulia Tymoshenko
10th and 13th Prime Minister of Ukraine (2007-2010)
What truly makes the former Prime Minister of Ukraine’s style so unique is her traditional Ukrainian hairstyle. The braid has got to be her quirk (p.s – it was an integral part of her political strategy). Interesting! And apart from being fascinating it was actually inspired by designer – Narciso Rodriguez as well as Hollywood actor Sienna Miller. Additionally, Azzedina Alaia has ought to be her most-liked designer.
8# Hina Rabbani Khar
Minister of Foreign Affairs (2011-2013)
A Pakistani politician, she shy’s away from body hugging clothes as well as bold colours. And prefers to dress conservatively and often wears outfits designed by Faraz Manan. In fact, when it comes to accessorizing, she usually goes in for an uber stylish Birkin handbag, Jimmy Choo shoes along with an understated pearl necklace.
9# Lastly, we have Deena Aljuhani Abdulaziz
Vogue Arabia’s First Editor.
Even though she is not politically inclined, the Saudi Arabian Princess is our favourite. This sartorially savy, mother of three is the editor in-chief of Vogue Arabia and owns a fashion business called D’NA. Talk about being multi-talented. That aside, she certainly accomplishes to get any designer’s vision to life, making each look aspirational. Preferring to wear regional designers namely Nathalie Trad and Reem Al Kanhal, she teams them with flattering heels by Aquazzura and Manolo Blahnik. Actually, we can go on and on about her.
We at LAOB feel that all these women are putting political figures back on the fashion map, so what’s your take on them?
